Mozilla has unveiled a new logo and announced a rebranding campaign as it prepares for a new era of technology. The company’s president Mark Surman noted that the updated brand is designed to last at least 25 years.
“This rebrand isn’t just a facelift — we’re laying the foundation for the next 25 years,” Surman writes.
Mozilla believes that although the company has been “at the forefront of open source privacy” for the past 25 years, users have not been fully able to appreciate it. So the company decided to be more open.
Mozilla, which started at the beginning of the Internet era, when ASCII and pixel art reigned supreme, seems to be drawing inspiration for a new visual style from nostalgia for those times. In collaboration with Studio Drama, the company created a set of customized fonts: Mozilla Semi-Slab, Mozilla Sans, and Mozilla Sans Text.
