Google CEO Sundar Pichai says that the company’s search engine will “undergo significant changes” in 2025, the NYT reports.

“I think you’ll be surprised even early in ’25 the kind of newer things search can do compared to where it is today,” Sundar Pichai says.

He also responded to one of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s statements that Google should be the “default winner” in the AI race. Pichai says that he would love to compare Microsoft’s own models with Google’s, but he can’t because Microsoft uses OpenAI models.

This year, Google launched a large-scale modernization of its search engine with artificial intelligence. Many new features have been added, including annotation of interesting content, improvements to Google Lens, automatic summarization of search results, and much more.

The company is also preparing to launch a major update to its Gemini model to better compete with Microsoft, OpenAI, and Perplexity.
