8BitDo has presented a themed mechanical keyboard and mouse in the style of the original transparent green Xbox console. In addition, this is the company’s first keyboard with RGB backlighting. Both products are officially licensed by Microsoft.
The 8BitDo Retro 87 Mechanical Keyboard – Xbox Edition is a TKL keyboard with 87 keys that uses Kailh Jellyfish X switches. The keyboard is also equipped with a separate control panel for volume control and customizable buttons.
The keyboard also has a separate Xbox button that activates the Windows Game Bar. The buttons are made in the same transparent green color as the original Xbox, and the arrows are in the colors of the controller buttons.
The keyboard supports 8BitDo Ultimate Software for customizing backlighting and key programming. The new product has a 4000 mAh battery that provides more than 200 hours of operation. The keyboard supports both wired and wireless connectivity and is compatible with Windows 10 (version 1903 and later) and Android 9 and later devices.
Just like any other 8BitDo keyboard, the Xbox Edition will come with a pair of large super buttons that users can program to trigger macros and other functions.
In addition to this, the company has introduced a symmetrical 8BitDo Retro R8 Mouse – Xbox Edition in the same style. It is equipped with four programmable side buttons in the same colors as the keyboard arrows. The mouse comes with a charging station that also serves as a storage compartment for the adapter.
The mouse is equipped with a PAW 3395 sensor that supports DPI in the range from 50 to 26000 with a sampling rate in the range from 125 Hz to 8000 Hz. The buttons are controlled by Kailh Sword GM X Micro Switcher switches, which are designed to withstand more than 100 million clicks.
It also has a 450 mAh battery, which should be enough for 100 hours of Bluetooth operation and 26 to 105 hours via the 2.4 GHz adapter.
The new 8BitDo keyboard costs $119 and the mouse costs $59. Both devices are already available for pre-order and will begin shipping on January 16, 2025.
