OpenAI has acquired chat.com, adding to its collection of high-profile domain names. From now on, chat.com redirects to the ChatGPT chatbot. This was reported by Tech Crunch.
chat.com is one of the oldest domains on the Internet, registered in September 1996. In 2023, it was reported that HubSpot co-founder and CTO Dharmesh Shah purchased chat.com for $15.5 million, making this deal one of the two largest domain sales in history.
Last March, Shah announced that he had sold chat.com to an anonymous buyer. Recently, he announced that the buyer was OpenAI.

For those of you that have been following me for a while, you may recall that I announced earlier this year that I had acquired the domain chat .com for an "8 figure sum"… https://t.co/nv1IyddP5z

The domain name does not seem to have changed hands since its sale in March last year, indicating that OpenAI has no plans to rebrand ChatGPT.
