Microsoft is testing a major Windows on ARM update that will allow more x64 programs and games to run under Prism emulation on Copilot Plus computers with Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus processors. This was reported by The Verge.

With this update, the Microsoft emulator will support 64-bit x86 software for using processor extensions such as AVX, AVX2, BMI, FMA, and F16C.

Thus, the new Qualcomm chips will be able to run more applications that do not have native ARM64 versions. For example, Windows on ARM users will be able to run Starfield, Helldivers 2, and most Sony games: Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Last Of Us Part 1, and God of War Ragnarok.

While many programs, such as Photoshop and Chrome, already have native ARM64 versions for Windows, others still require emulation, and some are not supported at all.

According to Microsoft, the new emulator is already available for “limited use” on some computers.
