The new beta version of tvOS 18.2 for the Apple TV media player has the ability to change the screen aspect ratio and support for the 21:9 format. This was reported by 9to5Mac.
Although Apple only announced support for the 21:9 format, the update also adds a few more options. The new features can be found in Apple TV’s Audio & Video settings. Users can choose between options:
- Automatically
- 16:9
- 21:9
- 2.37:1
- 2.39:1
- 2.40:1
- DCI 4K
- 32:9
Although almost all modern TVs have a 16:9 aspect ratio, having different aspect ratio options will be useful for those who connect Apple TV to projectors.
The beta version of tvOS 18.2 is currently available for developers. The update will be released to the general public in December 2024 and will work with Apple TVs from 2015 and later.
