Netflix will abandon and remove almost all interactive shows and movies from the platform on December 1, 2024. Representatives of the company noted that this technology “has already fulfilled its purpose,” The Verge writes.

Starting from December 1, only four interactive shows out of 24 currently listed on the site will remain on the streaming platform: Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, Ranveer vs. Wild with Bear Grylls and You vs. Wild.

Mike Verdu, the former head of Netflix’s gaming division, who is now the head of generative AI for games, also confirmed that the company no longer plans to create new interactive shows.

“The technology served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on technological efforts in other areas,” said the company’s representative Chrissy Kelleher in a commentary for The Verge.

As a reminder, Mike Verdue also said that the company would invest in generative artificial intelligence to further develop the gaming business. In a post on LinkedIn, he noted that Netflix sees great potential in artificial intelligence for the entire industry.
