Warner Bros. is working on at least one movie in the world of Game of Thrones or A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, The Hollywood Reporter writes.

The project is at an early stage of development, with no scriptwriter, director, or actors appointed yet. But the company is interested in bringing Westeros to the big screen.

The showrunners of the original series, David Benioff and Dan Weiss, were known to want to end the series with three feature films instead of a final season in 2019. Martin was also enthusiastic about the idea of a movie. But for a long time, HBO strongly resisted the idea and wanted to preserve the prestige of the series as an HBO property.

However, since the original series ended, there have been countless changes in the company’s leadership. HBO is now headed by Casey Bloys and the studio by Mike De Luca and Pam Abdi, and the relationship between film and television has changed, with a greater willingness to bring cinematic productions to the small screen and vice versa.

In 2022, HBO launched the prequel series House of the Dragon. The prequel series Tales of Dunk and Egg is scheduled for release in 2025.
