Sharp has announced a new flagship smartphone. The model is called Aquos R9 Pro.
The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. This is a strange decision, given that this is not a cheap smartphone and that the company’s previous top models used flagship Qulacomm chips. At least the company didn’t skimp on the RAM and equipped the new device with 12 GB. The device also has 512 GB of internal storage. The chip is paired with a cooling system that has a steam chamber.
The front panel of the novelty has a 6.7-inch QHD+ display with a resolution of 3120×1440p – this is a Pro IGZO OLED panel with a variable refresh rate from 1 Hz to 240 Hz. The display has a built-in ultrasonic Qualcomm fingerprint scanner.
The Sharp Aquos R9 Pro has three 50.3-megapixel cameras on the back and the Vario-Summicron system, which was developed under the guidance of Leica. The camera is equipped with a 65mm telephoto lens (f/2.6). It offers 2.8x optical zoom and can reach 20x digital zoom. It is based on a fairly large 1/1.56″ sensor with Dolby Vision support for video recording. The lens supports optical image stabilization (OIS).
The main 50.3-megapixel module has a massive 1/0.98-inch sensor. It’s larger than the 1-inch sensors we’ve seen in some flagships. This module has a 23 mm (86°) f/1.8 lens with OIS.
The third camera on the rear panel is a 50.3-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 13-millimeter lens (122°, f/2.2), which can also shoot macro images. By the way, the smartphone comes with a physical shutter button.
As for the front module, it is also 50.3 megapixels. This is a 23-millimeter f/2.2 (84°) lens.
Sharp Aquos R9 Pro comes with Android 14. The novelty will receive up to 3 OS updates and security patches for 5 years. The smartphone is protected against dust and water according to IPX5/IPX8/IP6X standards. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The device is powered by a 5000 mAh battery. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not mention the charging speed.
Sharp will start selling Aquos R9 Pro in December 2024, but only in Japan. The gadget will be released in other countries next year. The price is $1235.
