For the past eight months, Meta has been working on its own AI-based search engine to replace Google and Bing, which the company currently uses. This was reported by The Verge.

Back in the summer of 2024, a Meta web crawler was spotted scanning the network. In addition, the company also collected information about locations and places that could compete with Google Maps.

The result of this data collection will be that the company’s chatbot, which can be accessed on Instagram and Facebook, will use its own data to answer instead of Google and Bing. In addition, Meta signed an agreement with Reuters last week to use the news of the publication in chatbot answers.

The company has not yet commented on these reports, but it is not the only one trying to reduce its dependence on popular search engines. Rumors about the OpenAI search service have been circulating online for a long time. Another AI company that has launched its own search engine, Perplexity, has already received a lawsuit from News Corp for illegal data use.
