NIBULON Agricultural Company, which also has the status of a demining operator and a certificate for non-technical survey of territories, is going to use AI to reduce the cost of humanitarian demining. This was stated by Mr. Mykhailo Rizak, Director of Government Relations at NIBULON, at the Ukraine Mine Action 24 conference in Lausanne, Switzerland.

NIBULON has been working as a humanitarian demining operator for two years now, holding five key certificates in this area and its own demining equipment fleet. Now the company is working to reduce the cost of the process in order to reduce the state’s expenses on compensation for demining services for agricultural producers.

In this area, NIBULON is already working with SEFOR equipment to track the work of deminers. In the near future, the company plans to use AI analysis of aerial photography to identify landmines and explosive devices using the Safe Pro Group Inc. tool, which should reduce costs and speed up the demining decision-making process by understanding the real situation in potentially contaminated fields.

“Just like with grain exports and mine clearance, we strive to build an efficient model of operation that will ensure the lowest cost but maintain a high quality standard. Over the year, we, as a mine action operator, have returned 5.5 thousand hectares, or 98% of the land of the Snihurivska branch in Mykolaiv region. As of now, this is 15% of all the land demined in Ukraine since 2022. The actual beneficiaries in Snihuriv district are 570 landowners who are now able to make a profit. We are grateful to the German government, BMZ and DEG for co-financing the demining team, the EBRD and IFC for their active position on demining in Ukraine and the state for its openness to the opinion of market participants, which ultimately allowed us to set compensation at 100% for the cleanup of agricultural land at the end of summer. It is in our power to scale this experience together,” said Mykhailo Rizak.
