Last weekend marked the debut of the McLaren W1, a car that deserves to be called not even a supercar, but a hypercar. The best, the best, the best of what McLaren has to offer today.

It all starts with the carbon fiber monocoque, combined with aluminum suspension parts and gull-wing doors with integrated windows. The uniqueness of the McLaren W1 continues with its hybrid engine: a 4-liter twin-turbo petrol V8 and an additional electric motor together deliver 1,275 hp of power – making the McLaren W1 the most powerful road car ever built!

But no all-wheel drive: the company honors the tradition of rear-wheel drive sports cars. However, there is an active rear differential and an 8-speed robot gearbox. There is also a suspension with the ability to change the ground clearance and carbon-carbon brake discs with 6-piston calipers in front. The result? Dynamics 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, braking 100-0 km/h in 29 meters, top speed 350 km/h.

It is worth noting the incredibly complex aerodynamics. Air channels are located behind the front wheels of the McLaren W1 and on the sides of the body. The front has a double splitter, and the rear has a movable wing: it not only changes the angle of attack, but can also be moved 300 mm beyond the car’s dimensions.

Interestingly, the interior of the McLaren W1 no longer offers any adjustment options: the driver and passenger seats are clearly fixed in one position. How else can you choose the right seat? By adjusting the steering wheel and pedal assembly – this is an unusual ergonomics that is not found in ordinary passenger cars, but is occasionally found in supercars and hypercars. So, McLaren W1 is a real hypercar; this is confirmed by the manufacturer itself, designating the novelty as a descendant of other own 1-series models: McLaren F1 and McLaren P1.

The cost of the car is already known – $2.1 million, which is quite a bit for a hypercar of this class. But you don’t have to rush to buy it: a total of 399 McLaren W1s are planned to be produced, and there is no doubt that all of them have already been pre-ordered by the company’s regular customers.
