Consumers are seeing more and more advertising in their lives, as well as methods of distributing it directly on devices, such as TVs. However, while ads usually appear on cheaper devices, LG does not hesitate to show them even on TVs costing more than $2,000. Flat Panels HD writes about this.
During the review of the LG G4 OLED TV, the publication saw that full-screen screensavers with ads now appear on the TV. The ads appeared before the regular screensaver was launched and were localized to the region to which the TV was set.
In an attempt to find official announcements about such advertising screensavers, the publication found a document from LG Ad Solutions discussing the effectiveness of such advertising.
“The launch of our Screensaver Ads has been a significant milestone in enhancing viewer engagement on LG Smart TVs. This full-screen ad format has effectively utilized idle screen time to boost brand visibility. Feedback and study results have validated that these ads capture attention and drive meaningful interactions, making them an integral part of our ad offerings,” said Chris Weiland, Director of Product Marketing at LG Ad Solutions.
However, you can turn off these ads for good. To do this, you will need to go to the TV settings, select the “Advanced Settings” item and remove the switches from the advertising screensavers, and at the same time from other types of advertising.
At the beginning of the year, it was reported that Roku, the developers of set-top boxes for TVs, had patented a technology that would allow the use of HDMI channels to display ads.
