Third-party developers have bought the rights to the Flappy Bird game and will release an expanded version on iOS and Android in early 2025. The updated game will feature new birds and modes.

The original game was created in 2013 by Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen. It failed to attract the attention of users for the first few months, but gained immense popularity after it was shown by Swedish YouTuber Pewdiepie.

Already in January 2014, Flappy Bird topped the App Store charts and became the most downloaded app of the month. On January 30, 2014, the developer released an Android version.

But on February 8, 2014, Nguyen announced that he was removing Flappy Bird from all platforms. Many assumed that this was due to legal issues with Nintendo’s copyright. However, as confirmed by a Nintendo representative and Nguyen himself, it had nothing to do with legal issues.

The developer said that he was very uncomfortable with how addictive his game was. He wanted to create a game for a 2-3 minute play session, but people were spending too much time in the game.

The new iteration of the game will now be developed by a company called Flappy Bird Foundation, who call themselves passionate fans of the yellow bird.

Flappy Bird Foundation придбала офіційні права на торгову марку Flappy Bird у Gametech Holdings LLC, на оригінальну гру та персонажа Piou Piou.
