Elon Musk denies reports that his artificial intelligence startup xAI will receive a portion of Tesla’s revenue and instead give the car company access to AI models. The billionaire denied the report in X, citing a new article by The Wall Street Journal.

The original article from The Wall Street Journal stated that xAI and Tesla were discussing the possibility of a deal in which the startup would receive a certain share of Tesla’s revenue, and for its part, provide the company with access to its technologies and resources.

Tesla could potentially license xAI’s artificial intelligence model to use it for its Full Self-Driving driver assistance technology. In addition, as part of this agreement, Elon Musk’s startup would help the company create other features, such as a voice assistant and software for the humanoid robot Optimus.

Elon Musk replied that such reports are not true. According to him, Tesla learned a lot after discussions with AI startup engineers. This was enough to speed up the development of the Full Self-Driving system, and there is no need to license AI models.

He also pointed out that xAI models are gigantic and would be impossible to run on Tesla cars, and more importantly, they don’t want to do it. He continued that artificial intelligence on cars is different, it is more “dense” and has to run on weaker computers.
