Bitmo Lab has announced the GameBaby case, which will turn an iPhone into a console for retro games.
GameBaby is a smart two-piece accessory. It adds a D-pad and buttons for gaming to your iPhone, and also works as a protective case for everyday use.
The lower part of the case can be detached from the upper part and placed on the front of the iPhone. It will provide a physical interface that is suitable for retro games that have recently become available on iOS through emulators. When you are not playing, it is removable and can be attached to the back of your smartphone for protection with additional gaming functionality.
The case is not powered and does not connect to the iPhone in any way. Therefore, we can assume that it only activates the on-screen buttons.
According to Bitmo Lab, the case is compatible with Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advanced, and NES layouts, as well as with special emulator skins.
GameBaby is already available for pre-order for $19. Afterwards, the case will cost $39. The first deliveries will begin in October 2024.
