Tesla plans to produce a six-seater version of its Model Y in China from the end of 2025. This was reported by informed sources, Reuters writes.

According to one of the interlocutors, Elon Musk’s company has asked suppliers to prepare for a double-digit increase in Model Y production at its Shanghai plant.

As you know, Tesla launched the Model Y in 2020 and modernized it as part of a project called Juniper. The Reuters source noted that this variant will have five seats and will be launched in early 2025.

The addition of the six-seater variant emphasizes the pressure in China from domestic competitors, while in the United States Tesla prioritizes self-driving technologies and the development of robotaxis.

The Model Y crossover is the best-selling car in China: in January-June 2024, sales amounted to 207.8 thousand units.
