Qualcomm has announced a new mobile processor for low-cost smartphones.

The chip is called Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and is the successor to Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 (the Snapdragon 6 Gen 2 model did not enter the market).

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 delivers improved AI performance for tasks such as activity tracking and call noise reduction.

By the way, the chip is very similar to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, but it has some deteriorations.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 has eight cores: four Cortex-A78s clocked at 2.4 GHz and four Cortex-A55s clocked at 1.8 GHz. This corresponds to the architecture of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, but the new chip is slightly inferior in terms of core efficiency (the 7s Gen 2 operates at 1.95 GHz). The other difference is that the Snapdragon6 Gen 3 supports displays with resolutions up to Full HD+ with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, not 144 Hz like the 7s Gen 2.

Qualcomm has used the Adreno 710 GPU in the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, as well as LPDDR4X/LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The new device supports Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E, and cameras up to 200 MP.

It is not yet known when smartphones with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip will appear on the market.
