Announcements of Ukrainian games at Ukrainian Games Festival 2024 continue. Today, Ukrainian studio SoFarSoFun presented its project Beyonder. This is a cooperative horror shooter in the aesthetics of the late 1990s.

“The game is set in the late 1990s. Players act as agents of the shadowy Bureau, and their main task is to deal with the catastrophic anomalous release that occurred in the Pine Grove complex. But as a result of events that no one could have foreseen, a routine mission to neutralize a paranormal threat quickly turns into a fight for survival. To survive, players must clear the complex, and the time to complete the task is limited. The equipment and ammunition are also not infinite, so players will have to plan their actions carefully and look for vital resources left over from previous missions,” this is how Beyonder is presented on the game’s Steam page.

In general, Beyonder can be described as a mix of Half-Life 1’s aesthetics and shooting mechanics, Lethal Company’s multiplayer chaos, Phasmophobia’s horror atmosphere, and the style of the X-Files and the late 1990s.

Players start missions with limited information, and environments and enemies are constantly transforming to catch them off guard. The time to complete the task is limited. The entity is manipulating your feelings, and your partners may not be who they say they are. Don’t trust anyone, entities can eavesdrop or disrupt your conversations disguised as dead agents.

SoFarSoFun was founded in 2018 by industry veterans. For example, the company’s CEO Oleksiy Oleksiiv was one of the co-founders of the Donetsk studio Boolat Games (2001), which in 2021 came under the control of Russians from Playrix.

Beyonder doesn’t have a trailer or release date yet, but the screenshots look interesting, and the game can already be added to your Wish List. The Steam page currently lists English and Ukrainian text localizations.
