On August 20, 2024, at Gamescom 2024, publisher 2K and Gearbox Software officially announced Borderlands 4, a new installment of the already classic franchise that includes three main games and seven projects in total.

The game will be released in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Now Borderlands 4 can be added to the wish list in stores.

The announcement was made during the Opening Night Live presentation. The developers presented a teaser trailer with a first look at a completely new planet. Players will once again take on the role of the legendary treasure hunter and go in search of secret alien treasures, blowing up everything in their path.

“The team and I at Gearbox have a lot we’ve wanted to do with Borderlands since we first introduced the looter shooter genre to the world with our original game, All of us at Gearbox have massive ambitions for Borderlands 4 and are putting everything we have into making everything we love about Borderlands better than ever before while taking the game to new levels in exciting new directions,” said Randy Pitchford, founder and president of Gearbox Entertainment.

Catherine Lavers Mallet, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Core Games at 2K, says that Borderlands is one of the company’s most successful franchises.

Since the release of the first installment in 2009, all the games in the franchise have sold 87 million copies and received a lot of positive feedback from both critics and players. However, the franchise’s history has recently been blotted by a failed movie adaptation.

Be careful, the following is a synopsis of Borderlands 4 that contains spoilers for the ending of the third part.

“After a pursuit that took the Crimson Raiders across the universe, Lilith finally regained her stolen Siren powers—but Pandora’s moon of Elpis was on a catastrophic collision course with the planet. Now we’ve seen where Elpis ended up—along with the cataclysmic aftermath,” the synopsis says.
