Despite the fact that the FAT system supports partitions up to 2 TB, Windows has had a 32 GB limit for 30 years. However, this will soon change, as Microsoft plans to remove this limit in Windows 11. This is reported by The Verge.

Microsoft’s official blog says that the company will increase the FAT32 size limit when formatting disks from the command line using the format command from 32 GB to 2 TB.

For now, the limit is being removed only for the format command on the command line. The format dialog box available in Windows 11 will continue to have a 32 GB limit. The company may update this element of the system in the future.

Also, despite the fact that the partition limit for FAT32 has been changed, some of the old restrictions remain. For example, the size of individual files will continue to be limited to 4 GB.
