Google has officially unveiled the new Pixel 9 smartphone. It has a built-in Gemini assistant, a new processor and display, and a $799 price tag.
Google Pixel 9 is the simplest of the newly introduced models, including 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold. The smartphone has a 6.3-inch Super Actua display with an OLED panel, a resolution of 2424×1080 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a peak brightness of 2,700 nits. The screen is also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The smartphone is equipped with a new Google Tensor G4 processor and another Titan M2 coprocessor for security. The Pixel 9 also has 12 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage.
According to Google, the 4,700 mAh battery will provide up to 24 hours of operation, and in Extreme Battery Saver mode, the smartphone will be able to operate for up to 100 hours. The Pixel 9 also supports fast charging, which allows you to get 55% of the charge in 30 minutes, which requires a 45W proprietary power supply sold separately. There is also support for Qi induction and reverse charging.
The main body of the smartphone has only two cameras, unlike the Pro models, which have three. The first is a wide-angle 50-megapixel camera with an aperture of ƒ/1.68, a viewing angle of 82°, and Super Res Zoom up to 8×. The second is an ultra-wide-angle camera with 48 megapixels, ƒ/1.7 aperture, and a viewing angle of 123°. Both sensors have laser autofocus, a spectral and flicker sensor, and optical and electronic image stabilization. The front camera has a 10.5-megapixel resolution.
The Pixel 9 will also have a large set of AI-based photo editing tools. Magic Editor will allow you to edit photos in any way you want thanks to generative AI that can add new landscapes to photos. Other tools such as Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light will allow users to enhance their photos.
Pixel 9 also has IP68 water and dust protection, the same Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, and a fingerprint-resistant coating. In addition, the smartphone supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth v5.3. Everything will run on Android 14, which will receive security updates and Pixel Feature Drop for 7 years.
In addition, all Pixel 9 models will receive a set of new features and tools that have been created to fully utilize the potential of the Tensor G4 processor. This includes the new Gemini Live assistant, which will be available for Gemini Advanced subscribers and free for Pixel smartphone owners. The new assistant will be able to communicate with you on any topic, from setting alarms to discussing gift ideas.
Another new feature will be Pixel Screenshots, which will analyze all screenshots taken on a smartphone and extract all the necessary information from them. Thus, with a simple text query in the program, it will be possible to easily find a certain product, chat, or photo that the user has screenshot.
At the same time, the new smartphones introduced an updated Pixel Weather app, which received a new design and support for Gemini Nano artificial intelligence, which will be able to create a special weather report.
Other new features include Pixel Studio, an AI-powered image creation tool, and Clear Calling and Call Notes, which will improve call quality and send a transcription of the call after it ends.
Pixel 9 is already available for pre-order for $799 (in the US), and the smartphone will be released on August 22.
