YouTube is sending out invitations to users to take part in testing a new feature. It doesn’t have a name yet, but it resembles Community Notes on the X platform. This was reported by 9to5Google.

With this option in X, users can clarify the information below a misleading video to make it clearer. They can add links to clarify additional context.

The function is considered imperfect, but valuable, as it helps reduce the spread of disinformation.

Now YouTube is about to introduce something similar. Users are invited to participate in a pilot program.

Those who find the video “confusing or inaccurate” will be able to submit a comment to explain the video. Other users will be able to review the footage and decide whether the comment will be shown in the video. If the comment is approved, it appears directly below the video and can include timestamps.

Google first announced the feature in June 2024 and began testing it with a “limited number of participants.” But it looks like it will be rolled out more widely starting this week.
