During Google I/O 2024, an open beta of the Android Device Streaming service was presented, which allows developers to stream their apps on real devices located in Google’s data centers. At the time, only the Pixel and a few Samsung smartphones were available, but now the list is expanding.
The company announced a new partnership with three Android smartphone manufacturers – Samsung, Oppo, and Xiaomi. New devices from these companies will also be made available to developers of Firebase apps in Android Device Streaming via Android Studio.
It is unknown what kind of devices will be available to developers, but we can potentially expect both the flagship smartphones of the three companies and budget ones if Google wants to provide the widest range for testing.
Currently, developers are invited to sign up for the beta of the new service. Later in 2024, an early access release is also planned, which will allow developers to test their apps on more smartphones even easier.
As of now, Google does not require money for using the service. However, the free promotion will last until about February 2025, and after that, developers will probably have to pay on a monthly basis, but it is not yet known how much.
