Borderlands will be released on August 8, 2024. The film’s director Eli Roth says that this is the kind of movie where you shouldn’t think too much, but just sit back and enjoy the spectacle, Gamespot writes.
“I’ve always wanted to do something like this that was just like big and fun and crazy where you just shut off your brain, grab a bucket of popcorn, and laugh your ass off,” the director said.
He added that working on the film allowed him to realize his dream of creating a “visual” and “spectacular” film like The Fifth Element, Escape from New York or Barbarella.
Roth also noted that he is particularly excited to be working again with Jack Black (Claptrap) and Cate Blanchett (Lilith), who previously starred in The House with a Clock in Its Walls in 2018. The film adaptation also stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis and Kevin Hart as Roland.
Eli Roth is primarily known as a horror film director, having directed such films as Fever, the Hostel dilogy, and Death Wish. He is also known for his role as Donnie Donowitz in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (the one with Antonio Margaretti).
The Borderlands adaptation needed reshoots, but Roth was busy, so Deadpool director Tim Miller took over. Also, the screenwriter Craig Mazin (The Last of Us and Chernobyl) asked that his name not be mentioned in the film’s credits.
