Ford has announced that it will collaborate with bicycle company N plus to create two new electric bikes inspired by the automaker’s most iconic brands, the Bronco and Mustang. This was reported by The Verge.
This is not the first time a car company has collaborated with a bicycle manufacturer. GM, Porsche, Jeep, Polestar, and others have tried to do the same with varying degrees of success. But Ford claims that its bikes will be unique because they are directly related to two of the company’s most famous models.
The Bronco electric bike will be very rugged and designed for riding on rough terrain. The company says the bike will be equipped with a 750-watt motor-wheel that generates 85 Nm of torque.
The bike will also feature dual suspension, which Ford has dubbed GOAT, which, according to the company, stands for Goes Over Any Type of Terrain. The motorcycle-inspired saddle will be exclusive to the Bronco-branded bike.
The Bronco electric bike will be a Class 3, which means it can reach a top speed of 28 mph but will not have a throttle. The bike’s battery can provide a range of up to 96.5 km (60 miles), depending on the route, driving style, and energy usage. It takes up to 3.5 hours to fully charge the battery.
The Mustang electric bikes will be available in two configurations, both of which will have similar specifications to the Bronco bike. There will be a standard and a limited edition Mustang 60th Anniversary Edition model, which will be available exclusively through Ford dealers. Both bikes will “mimic the iconic sports car,” Ford says.
The Bronco e-bike will be shod with Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M hard tires, while the Mustang e-bike will be shod with Pirelli Angel GT semi-slicks. Both bikes will be equipped with four-piston hydraulic brakes and LCD displays that will provide real-time information on speed, battery life, and range.
None of the bikes will be cheap. The price for the Bronco e-bike starts at $4,500, with an additional $350 for a paint color other than the standard Area 51. The Mustang bike will sell for $4,000, with a similar option to choose a color other than the basic carbonized metallic gray. Both motorcycles are already available for pre-order on the company’s website, and deliveries will begin later this year.
