Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has launched a poll on the social network X, which he also owns, on whether Tesla should invest $5 billion in xAI, an artificial intelligence startup that Musk, oddly enough, also owns. This was reported by Reuters.

As of June 24, 2024, the majority of votes are in favor of Elon Musk using the money from the electric car company to promote his artificial intelligence startup.

Despite this, Musk says that for now “board approval & shareholder vote are needed, so this is just to test the waters.”

During such surveys from Musk, Tesla continues to lose money. In the second quarter of 2024, the company reported $1.48 billion in net profit. This is a 45% decrease compared to the same period in 2023.

Nevertheless, Musk noted during Tesla’s financial report that xAI will be “useful in advancing the full self-driving system and in building Tesla’s new data center,” adding that there are opportunities to integrate xAI’s Grok chatbot with Tesla’s software.

So far, 675,792 people have taken part in the survey, of whom 68.7% are positive about Tesla investing in Elon Musk’s startup.
