Users found an X-ray camera in Nothing CMF Phone 1 that “sees” through plastic and fabric

YouTuber pure. has discovered an interesting feature of the new Nothing CMF Phone 1 smartphones. The 2-megapixel depth sensor can work like an X-ray camera. For example, he was able to see the batteries inside the remote control. This was reported by TechRadar.

The YouTuber recorded a short video demonstrating several examples. The video shows how the phone shows the batteries inside the remote control, "sees" through a black film, the fabric in a suitcase, and even through a T-shirt.

Nothing responded to this video, and co-founder Akis Evangelidis explained why this is happening.

According to him, the depth sensor does not have an infrared light filter to improve its ability to capture light. However, the depth sensor can work like an infrared camera, which “can sometimes reveal the internal structure of thin or semi-transparent objects, especially when it's black acrylic material.”

In order to use the depth sensor separately, a third-party application will be needed, since the smartphone does not offer such functionality.

However, this possibility will soon disappear. The company will limit the access of third-party applications to the depth sensor output data through a software update that is expected in the near future.
