Netflix has shown a teaser for the series Ripley based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Talented Mr. Ripley (1955) and starring Irish actor Andrew “Moriarty” Scott.
This is not the first adaptation of the famous novel. The novel first appeared on television in a crime television anthology back in 1956. In 1960, there was a French film adaptation of Purple Noon starring Alain Delon as Tom Ripley, and in 1999, the film The Talented Mr. Ripley starring Matt Damon. In addition, the sequel novels were also filmed, of which there were four more in total.
The new adaptation is being created under the supervision of Stephen Zaillian, an Academy Award winner for his screenplay for Schindler’s List. In addition, Zaillian has written scripts for such well-known films as Clear and Present Danger, Mission: Impossible, Gangs of New York, All the King’s Men, Moneyball and The Irishman.
In addition to Andrew Scott, known primarily for his role in the Sherlock series, Ripley, which was originally to be released on Showtime and then moved to Netflix, also stars Dakota Fanning, John Malkovich and singer Johnny Flynn.
The first season of Ripley will be released on Netflix on April 4, 2024.
