Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi film Megalopolis will finally be released in theaters this year. The American director spoke about this during the Accutron Show, writes Gizmodo.

He has been thinking about the idea of the movie since the 80s. In the early 2000s, the director even tried to make the film, but after the events of September 11, he postponed the project.

However, 20 years later, he still created the movie and now shares some details. For example, production ended in March 2023, and in August, a temporary agreement was signed with the SAG-AFTRA union so that reshoots could be held during the Hollywood strikes.

According to Francis Ford Coppola, Megalopolis will take several months to complete post-production, and then the film will be released. Speaking about the movie, the director calls it unusual and not boring. As for the rest, he advises to wait and watch the movie.

Megalopolis is announced as an epic sci-fi drama and love story. The film describes an architect who seeks to rebuild New York City into a utopia after a “devastating catastrophe.” His progressive views come into conflict with the opinion of his beloved’s father, who holds more classical views.

Megalopolis will be Francis Ford Coppola’s first film since Inbetween/Twixt, which was released in 2011.
