In 2023, 14,533 new games were released on Steam, which is a record. This is evidenced by the statistics of the SteamDB website.

As you can see from the graphs, until 2012, only 200-300 new games appeared on Steam every year. The emergence of the Steam Greenlight program in the summer of 2012 stimulated an increase in the number of releases, and its replacement by Steam Direct in June 2017 further spurred developers.

Since then, apart from a slight drop in 2019, the number of new releases on Steam has been growing. In 2023, the increase reached 2,000 titles. October 2023 was the most fruitful month for releases, with 1,324 new games.

Of course, most indie releases in 2023 will remain unknown and will collect dozens or hundreds of sales at best, but the avalanche of games on Steam continues to grow, and it’s a little scary.

More than 60 new games have already been released on Steam in the first three days of 2024.
