More than a dozen malware lending apps, commonly known as SpyLoan, have been downloaded more than 12 million times from Google Play, reports BleepingComputer.

These are apps that offer users the opportunity to borrow money quickly and easily. However, their real purpose is to deceive users by offering high-interest loans and stealing financial and personal information for potential blackmail.

Since the beginning of the year, ESET, a cybersecurity company that detects malware on Google Play, has found 18 SpyLoan apps in the app store. Google has removed 17 of them.

Another app has been re-released with a different set of permissions and features and is no longer considered SpyLoan.
