Ubisoft started to show in-game ads, and later attributed it to a “technical error”

Ubisoft has started to show ads in Assassin’s Creed right during the gameplay. This was seen by a Reddit user who saw a banner with a discount for Assassin’s Creed Mirage while playing Odyssey on Xbox.

As reported by The Verge, the company called the ad a “technical error” and began investigating the situation as soon as it was reported.

“We have been made aware that some players encountered pop-up ads while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday,” says Ubisoft spokesperson Fabien Darrigues, in a statement to The Verge. “This was the result of a technical error that we addressed as soon as we learned of the issue.”

Later, the company explained in a post on X that the goal was to add ads to the main menu, but for reasons that are still unclear, these ads started appearing right during gameplay.
