A new patent recently filed by Sony describes a feature that will allow users to choose the exact moments from which they want to return to the game, writes Insider Gaming.
The feature will allow users to track the progress of the campaign and select a specific moment in the gameplay to change their mind, relive an epic episode, or try a new tactic without having to replay entire chapters or even the entire game.
According to the document, a specific set of data will be stored for each "trigger point," meaning that it looks like a kind of mini-save tied to each point that will be loaded when the game resumes. This raises questions about the standardization of saves, which can now take up different and very large amounts of memory for different games. In addition, storing such a large amount of data in the cloud for all players requires a lot of money to rent/support servers.
There are references in the patent publication history that link this particular application to other patents, some of which go back to 2019, meaning that Sony has been thinking about a similar system for some time.
