Sony managed to sell almost 47 million PlayStation 5 consoles in three years

Sony sold 4.9 million PlayStation 5 consoles in the second quarter of this fiscal year, reports Engadget.

In total, PS5 console sales have reached 46.6 million units since the model’s launch in November 2020.

Sony expects to sell 25 million PS5 consoles this fiscal year. This means that in the next two quarters, it needs to sell 16.8 million consoles to meet its target.

This is a very ambitious goal, as Sony managed to sell 19.1 million consoles in the entire fiscal year 2022. However, the company does not seem to be worried about this. According to Reuters, Sony President Hiroki Totoki is confident that the company “can achieve this goal very easily.”

As for games, Sony managed to sell 67.6 million copies in the second quarter.

As a reminder, Sony shipped 6.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2022, which ended in March. Sales of games in the period amounted to 68 million copies.

By the way, Sony is preparing to stop integrating the X platform for PS5 and PS4 on November 13. This means that players will soon be unable to post screenshots and videos from these consoles on social media.
