The Connectivity Standards Alliance has released a new version of the Matter 1.2 smart home standard. This update adds support for 9 new device types and several other features and improvements.

With the introduction of Matter 1.2, users using HomeKit, Google Home, or other smart home control systems will be able to control 9 new types of devices: refrigerators, air conditioners, dishwashers, washing machines, robot vacuum cleaners, smoke, carbon monoxide, and air quality sensors, air purifiers, and fans.

The updated protocol also adds enhancements for multi-component switches and lighting devices, along with semantic tags and improvements for device operating states.

At the same time, Matter has added support for new platforms to the SDK and is making Test Harness open source. This will give manufacturers more opportunities to create and update smart home products.
