Saudi Arabia will host the annual World Esports Championship. Teams will compete in various game disciplines to determine the champion, reports Reuters.

The first championship is planned to be held in Riyadh in the summer of 2024. This was announced by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia.

“The Esports World Cup is the natural next step in Saudi Arabia’s journey to become the premier global hub for gaming and esports, offering an unmatched esports experience that pushes the boundaries of the industry.”

In addition, the country plans to invest 142 billion riyals ($37.8 billion) in initiatives aimed at turning Saudi Arabia into a global gaming center.

As part of this program, the kingdom plans to host 250 gaming companies. It is projected to create 39,000 jobs and increase the sector’s contribution to Saudi Arabia’s GDP to 50 billion riyals by 2030.
