Sweden has announced a ban on most diesel and gasoline cars in the center of Stockholm. The ban will come into effect in 2025, reports Reuters.
The restrictions will be imposed to create an eco-friendly zone in 20 blocks of central Stockholm, covering upscale shopping streets and some of Sweden’s most expensive office buildings. Representatives of the Green Party hope that this will encourage people to switch to electric cars faster.
Certain exceptions will apply in the zone. Hybrid vans, police and ambulances, as well as cars in which the driver or passenger has a documented disability will continue to drive through the city center.
