A few days ago, Steam once again updated the statistics on the use of various hardware platforms by users of the gaming service. Among the tangible changes in September, we can note that the most popular video card is GeForce RTX 3060, which replaced GeForce GTX 1650.

“That’s been done before!”, attentive readers may exclaim, and they will be right. Indeed, a similar change of leader could be observed back in March, but Steam’s spring report had a number of anomalies that were later eliminated.

This time, GeForce RTX 3060 looks quite organic on the first line. Graphics cards of the series have recently dropped significantly in price, so it is not surprising that the popularity of graphics adapters has increased significantly.

In Ukraine, the basic versions of GeForce RTX 3060 are offered starting at UAH 11,500 (~$300). It is worth reminding that the graphics cards in the line are available in 8 GB and 12 GB versions, and their capabilities differ significantly. In addition to the memory capacity itself, the 8GB versions also use a 128-bit bus, while the 12GB models have a 192-bit backbone. As a result, the latter are 10-20% more productive than the “lightweight versions”, which are more likely to be called GeForce RTX 3060 for marketing reasons.

Initially, the difference in retail prices between the 8GB and 12GB models was quite noticeable, which justified the difference in performance, but now the price tags of these options are very close, so you should definitely give preference to the 12GB model.

All in all, the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB looks like a great option for entry-level gaming systems right now, which is why we already recommended these graphics cards for mainstream platforms in our September PC of the Month. The graphics card offers good performance for Full HD with high quality settings. Additional memory capacity will not be superfluous even in this mode.

By the way, 1920×1080 remains the most popular graphics mode used by 61.17% of Steam users. Recently, the demand for 1440p has been growing. The share of screens with this resolution has increased to 16.6%. However, less than 3.3% of players have switched to 4K so far.
