Florida-based marketing agency X Social Media LLC has filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s X Corp. over the renaming of Twitter, reports The Verge.

The agency accuses X Corp. of unfair competition and infringement of trademark and service mark rights.

In its complaint, X Social Media claims that it has been continuously using the registered trademark “X SOCIALMEDIA” since 2016. However, as a result of Twitter’s rebranding, in which the social network was renamed X, it suffered significant losses.

It is not yet clear how strong X Social Media’s arguments will be in this case. However, this is not the only situation around the rebranding of the social network. For example, in the summer it became known that brand X belongs to Meta. This is evidenced by the data of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

According to the Bureau, Meta filed a corresponding application on May 25, 2017. At the same time, June 11, 2019, was set as the date of registration of the brand. Meanwhile, the case did not reach the court case in this situation.
