SpaceX has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Space Force under which the company will provide satellite communications to the military as part of the Starshield program. The contract is worth $70 million, reports Engadget with reference to Bloomberg.

It is expected that Elon Musk’s company will provide services using its Starlink network of communication satellites. The contract is for one year. The company should receive the first $15 million by September 30.

Recently, a scandal erupted around SpaceX and Elon Musk after the billionaire admitted that he blocked the expansion of the Starlink satellite network for Ukraine’s attack on the Russian fleet off Crimea.

As a result, it became known that the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee is investigating the issue of national security because of Elon Musk’s decision. Committee chairman Jack Reed said that reports on the use of Starlink revealed “serious national security liability issues, and the committee is looking into it.” According to him, the issue is being examined “from all angles.”
