The Clubhouse app is trying to regain popularity among users and is rethinking its concept. This was reported by The Verge.

So far, the app has popularized the idea of social audio rooms. But now it intends to be more like a messaging app with new group chats. The updated app is already available on iOS and Android.

“Think of a chat as something like a group Instagram story that you contribute to with your voice. You kick off a chat by recording a voice message, and then you can send that chat around to your friends. They can then hop in and add their own voice recordings to create a kind of voice collage / conversation,” the issue writes.

Clubhouse has been redesigned to accommodate these new chats. When a person opens the updated app, it offers to start a new chat and share it. Chats are also what the user sees first on the app’s home tab.

At the same time, users will be able to continue to create live social audio rooms. Clubhouse assures that this will remain a central part of the app.

Clubhouse was launched on iOS in April 2020. In May 2021, the app appeared on Android. At that time, it focused on live communication in special “rooms” and “clubs” of interest. Interaction took place by voice in real time.

Interest in the app was very high, and invitations to it were even sold on eBay. But over time, interest waned, especially after new similar products appeared.
