YouTube has announced that it is disabling links in short video descriptions, comments, and vertical streams. The streamer also removes the ability to click on social media icons on all channel banners on the desktop, writes Engadget.

The company is taking such measures to combat spam. The new changes will be implemented on August 31.

“Because abuse tactics evolve quickly, we have to take preventative measures to make it harder for scammers and spammers to mislead or scam users via links,” explained in Youtube.

At the same time, the streamer is adding new links to authors’ channels, and starting August 23, a large clickable link will appear next to the “Subscribe” button. This link will take users to any website.

In addition to links, YouTube is working to reduce the number of fake accounts by improving the strategies it uses to find and then remove them. According to the platform, it removed 35 percent more fake accounts in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
