Quake II to be remastered

Bethesda announced the long-awaited release of an improved version of one of the most famous shooters of the 90s – Quake II.

The remaster was developed by Nightdive Studios, the game has received graphical improvements (though not nearly as significant as Quake II RTX) and is available not only on PC, but also on all consoles – Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, with cross-play support between them. However, PC players will need to use a gamepad to play with console players.

In addition to the base game, the original add-ons The Reckoning and Ground Zero have also been updated. The remaster also includes a brand new expansion, Call of the Machine, developed by MachineGames, featuring 28 levels for the story campaign and a new deathmatch map. By the way, the same studio once developed a similar expansion for the first Quake, Dimension of the Machine. “But that’s not all” (c) – computer players will finally be able to get acquainted with Quake II 64, an exclusive port of the game for the Nintendo 64 console.

The Quake II Remaster will not be sold as a separate game and will be available as a free update to the original game (with access to the original game maintained). If you don’t already have this classic shooter in your collection, you can purchase it at Steam, Epic Games Store or at the Microsoft Store. Quake II is also available on Game Pass.
