For Magic: The Gathering will release sets based on the Fallout, Final Fantasy, Assassin’s Creed, and Doctor Who universes

Під час святкування тридцятиріччя карткової гри Magic: The Gathering (the first set was released on August 5, 1993), Wizards of the Coast talked about future plans for the game, including the Universes Beyond sub-brand, which includes collaborations with other game, movie, and book brands.

The Universes Beyond sub-brand was introduced in 2021, and includes both regular Magic: The Gathering sets and the unique cards of the Secret Lairs sets, redrawn by famous artists. Despite the fact that MTG has been working with the concept of a multiverse since the early 1990s, Universes Beyond cards are still not legal in Standard, but they are fully legal in timeless formats like Vintage, Legacy, Commander, and Pauper.

Since its launch, Universes Beyond has released cards with The Walking Dead, Warhammer 40K, Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons. The latest MTG set for today is The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, also part of Universes Beyond. And it seems that there will be more of them, because after the release of MTG Arena, many new players joined the game and now the brand feels better than ever.

Several of these collaborations with Fallout, Final Fantasy, and Assassin’s Creed video games were announced during the presentation. The next release from Universes Beyond will be a Doctor Who set. Doctor Who Commander Decks will be released on October 13, 2023, and yes, all the Doctors and all their companions will be there. The next one will be a collaboration with Jurassic World in November 2023.

An additional set dedicated to Fallout will be released in March 2024 and will include Commander Decks. A set for Assassin’s Creed is planned for July 2024, and it seems that the release date of the next Ubisoft game, known as Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red, will be announced around that time. And in 2025, the Universes Beyond set based on the Final Fantasy game will be released.

And the next, already 97th “ordinary” expansion of Magic: The Gathering – Wilds of Eldraine will be released on November 8, 2023.

We would like to remind you that the most expensive The One Ring card, which recently sold for $2 million, was part of the Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth set released as part of Universes Beyond.
