As we predicted, the future flagship of the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Hetman Ivan Mazepa corvette, is to enter the Navy in 2024. The Commander of the Navy of Ukraine, Vice Admiral Oleksii Neizhpapa, told this to ArmyInform.

The anti-submarine stealth corvette of the coastal area Ada MILGEM class Hetman Ivan Mazepa was launched in October 2022 in Turkey.

According to the December 2020 contract, Turkey is building two Ada MILGEM (Milli Gemi, literally “National Ship” from Turkish) class corvettes for Ukraine. The laying of the hull of the first ship took place in September 2021. On August 18, 2022, the ship received the name Hetman Ivan Mazepa and the ship number F211. The laying of the hull of the second corvette, which does not yet have a name, took place on March 13, 2023.

According to Neizhpapa, the next two ships of the series are planned to be built on the territory of Ukraine, after the victory. The preparation of the Hetman Ivan Mazepa crew has already begun in Turkey.

As a reminder, the main operator of Ada-class corvettes is the Turkish Navy, which has 4 ships of this class that entered the fleet in 2011-2019. 4 ships of the Babur subclass, which is an offshoot of the Ada class, were ordered by the Pakistan Navy. In addition, the Malaysian Navy is also considering buying these corvettes.
