Today, the NDA deadline for the publication of the results of independent performance tests of the next representative of the RTX 4000 line – GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB has finally expired. Preliminary information about the capabilities of the younger model on the GPU with the Ada Lovelace architecture was provided by the developers during the May video card announcement. At the same time, the recommended price of GeForce RTX 4060 for the American market was specified and was $299.

However, data on potential and productivity from the “primary source” are not always objective and comprehensive, so we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the first results from independent sources. There are enough reviews of different models on the net. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to pre-test the GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB, so we offer to make a first impression of the video card according to the results of experiments of our colleagues from TechPowerUp.

We remind you that NVIDIA does not offer a reference model for the new line, so the RTX 4060 is presented exclusively in original designs from partners. As a basis, we took the review of the ASUS GeForce RTX 4060 Dual OC version, however, the charts also contain the indicators of the simulated base RTX 4060 with the recommended frequency formula. We will focus on these values.

GeForce RTX 4060 performance 1080p

In the context of the GeForce RTX 4060 model, we are primarily interested in performance in 1080p mode. As you can see, in such conditions, the video card is about 20% inferior to the older model – GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB. At the same time, the advantage over the predecessor GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB is about 18%.

A direct comparison with the actual opponent from the opposite camp – Radeon RX 7600 8 GB – is very interesting. On average, NVIDIA’s new product is only 3% faster. The advantage is relatively small, but it is already higher than the measurement error.

If we evaluate not the relative indicators, but the direct performance in games, then on average the owner of the GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB can count on 97 frames/і at high image quality settings. Of course, this is a generalized indicator that can fluctuate significantly. In such “heavyweights” as The Last of Us Part I or Hogwarts Legacy, you will have to work with the settings to get an average 60 fps.

In ray tracing modes, the GeForce RTX 4060 is significantly slower than the RTX 4060 Ti – the difference increases to 27%. However, everything is relative here. The advantage over the GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB remains at 17%. At the same time, NVIDIA’s novelty here is significantly ahead of the Radeon RX 7600 8 GB – by an average of 25-27%. At the same time, the RTX 4060 with RT enabled has a performance similar to what the GeForce RTX 2080 can offer. Almost the flagship of 2018 with a suggested price of $699.

Of course, GeForce RTX 4060 8 GB supports DLSS 3 based on Frame Generation technology, which allows you to count on additional acceleration in projects where this intelligent scaling algorithm is implemented.

GeForce RTX 4060 power consumption

A separate interesting study is the power consumption of the video card. We will remind you that NVIDIA specifies a TBP value of 115 W for the GeForce RTX 4060. During games, the actual power consumption of the video card was about 130 W. This is slightly more than the initially declared values, but even in this case, the overall energy efficiency of the video card is very good. In addition, let’s take into account that the original ASUS model with increased operating frequencies of the GPU was tested. For comparison, the power consumption of the Radeon RX 7600 is about 150 W, and the GeForce RTX 3060 12 GB consumes about 185 W.
