According to new data, the Google Pixel 8 line will receive functionality that was not available in previous models – image output to external monitors via USB-C.

The USB-C standard supports image output since its introduction, but the manufacturer of smartphones, tablets, laptops or other gadgets decides whether to add this functionality to their devices. Many Android devices, in particular, Samsung smartphones, have support for this option, but Google previously bypassed it.

If the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro do support USB-C image output, this could indicate that Google is planning to add a desktop mode to its smartphones, similar to Samsung DeX. It should be noted that even in the Android 13 firmware, work on the desktop mode was noticed. This functionality is also available in Android 14.
