Recent bits of information about a larger MacBook Air with a 15-inch display turned out to be more than just a rumor. All users who wanted a larger than 13-inch version of the MacBook Air still waited for this moment — the 15-inch model of one of the best ultrabooks was demonstrated at WWDC 2023.

“The new MacBook Air has it all, from its large Liquid Retina display and ultra-slim fanless design. to the amazing battery life and immersive 6-speaker sound system,” Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternus said.

Increasing the size of the MacBook Air did not entail any noticeable changes in design. Externally, it’s the same aluminum Air as the 13, only larger and with wider bezels on the top case around the keyboard. The remaining color options are Midnight, Starlight, Space Gray and Silver. The dimensions of the new product are 340×237×11.5 mm with a weight of 1.51 kg. At the same time, the display increases from 13.6 to 15.3 inches.

Also, the display will offer a slightly higher resolution — 2880×1864 pixels. Other specifications remain similar to the current smaller model: Liquid Retina, 500 cd/m², Wide color (P3) and True Tone support.

The keyboard was left without additional innovations and with the usual fingerprint scanner. The FaceTime HD webcam has the same 1080p resolution. Unfortunately, the number of ports has not been increased either: there are only two Thunderbolt 3/USB 4, a 3.5 mm Jack for a headset, and the proprietary MagSafe 3 for power.

But with sound, this case still uses a larger space “for maneuver”, so the MacBook Air 15 has not four, but six speakers (two additional ones are force-cancelling woofers).

As for the difference in performance, it will be found only in basic versions of laptops. The MacBook Air 15 has the same configuration options, except that the base version already has 10- rather than 8-core graphics. This also means that the Air still can’t connect to more than one external monitor at the same time. Although even in this case, it will be able to support a resolution of up to 6K at 60 Hz.

Everything else is already familiar: an 8-core Apple M2 (4 productive, 4 energy-efficient cores, and 16 Neural Engine cores), from 8 to 24 GB of RAM, and from 256 GB to 2 TB of storage. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 are provided for communication. The large Air also does not have active cooling, so the work will also be absolutely silent.

And if the MacBook Pro, along with the increase in size, adds a little time to battery life, then in the MacBook Air line, the larger model does not have such preferences. The battery in the MacBook Air 15 with a capacity of 66.5 Wh will also offer up to 18 hours of video viewing in the Apple TV application or 15 hours of browsing, just like the smaller model. But a 35-watt power supply with two ports will immediately be included in the kit. For fast charging, you can choose a 70-watt charger, but with one USB-C port.

Depending on the chosen configuration, MacBook Air 15 will cost from $1,299 to $2,499 (in the US). The start of sales is scheduled for June 13. And with the release of a larger model, the 13-inch MacBook Air has dropped in price by $100, and now its price starts at $1,099.
