The games of the Pokémon series sold a total of 480 million copies

The Pokémon Company has updated sales figures of software associated with The Pokémon franchise.

According to new data, more than 480 million games under the Pokémon brand have been sold since 1996, when the first game in the Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow series was released. We are talking only about the main line, which currently has 23 games. That is, Pokémon Go, other mobile games and spinoffs are not included in this figure.

The most popular game in the series is the very first Pokémon Red / Green / Blue / Yellow, which has a total circulation of 47,520,000 copies across all platforms. The last game in the series and the first in the ninth generation, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, was released on November 18, 2022.

The new figures have allowed The Pokémon series to climb to third place in the ranking of the most popular game franchises, surpassing Call of Duty, which has 400 million sales. The Pokémon is now second only to the Mario series (826.38 million) and Tetris (495 million)
